Thing 23

My favorite discoveries on this "learning journey" are that I have so much to learn. While I am not a librarial, these tools hould be beneficial to the classroom. I especially liked wikis and rollyos.

I have to view problems as challenges. Many of these "things" challenged me. In fact, I was so frustrated with thing 21 , that I quit. But I did create quite a learning toolbox.

Now I know how students feel when they don't understand how to do something. It was very frustrating. I felt that I had to do this on my own, without help, and I don't feel that I did a very good job.

I don't know how you could improve on this. Because I'm not that great with computers, this was just difficult for me.

For me, this program was both enlightening and frustrating. I learned a lot, but I also got stuck in places. I with that I had someone I could ask questions to. If I took this course with a colleague or friend, it would have been much easier for me.

I do not know if I would participate in another sesssion like this. It was very hard for me to work independently. Maybe if it were on a topic I was more familiar with.

Thing 22

I went to the educator ning and the ning for teachers. These were great, especially considering my frustration level at the last "Think." Nings are like the other social networking sights, ecxept much narrower in scope. This would be a great way for a teacher to ideas on how to solve problems and let others know what works best for them.

I think nings will definitely be useful for be.

Thing 21

I tried and tried to do a photo story. First, I got about twentey pictures, then I lost them. Then, I didn't set my sights so high. I tried to do a short show. I couldn't find a micriphone on my computer. When I cropped the pictures, the text wasn't in the box. Now, when I tried to pull my file from "My Videos," it turns out that I didn't save it properly.

Do I have to do this over? I am extremely frustrated!

Thing 20, Continued (1)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zc3wMrnQCZU. There is the URL for the You Tube video on the library. It just shows how important libraries are to everyone.

I also went to the teacher tube. I found a song about the water cycle http://teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=7708&title=Water_Cycle_Song
This would be great for my 6th graders to reinforce their learning. Everything helps my students

Both YOuTube anad TeacherTube have uncountable uses in the classroom and the library.

Thing 20

I pulled up this really fascinating post on YouTube on the New York Pulic Library. If only I could figure out how to embed it. I'll keep trying. It stresses what I talked about before. Libraries are communities.

Thing 19

I chose to expore Facebook. I chose it because I used to use My Space as my social networking site, but found that I had more "Friends" on Facebook.

It is amazing how I have contacted people from my past, mostly from college (20 yrs ago in Louisiana) and High School (longer ago than that). Its neat how you can find one person you know, then they can suggest people you might also know.

The only use I can see for Facebook in the schools is to get assignments and messages from me. I check my Facebook occassionally and I also check my e-mail. You get an e-mail when you have a Facebook notification.

A teacher at my school used Facebook to do a history project, I'm not exactly sure how it worked, but the kids really liked it.

Thing 18

I looked at Google Docs because Open Office took too long to download. It is good in that you can share an Excel or Word Document. You can also choose who has the rights to view, and who can edit. I had a hard time with Excel being edited in to proper format with Google Docs, maybe this was my error.

Thing 17

Rollyos are so cool. I am not a content area teacher, so I did a search engine for something I am interested in right now. Shopping. I put all the sites that I usually go to. I don't have to use favorites or bookmarks anymore. I'm not sure which is more time effective though.

I will use rollyos when my students are working on projects and papers. I 'll find out what reliable sources the classroom teacher wants them to use, then creata a new search roll.

Thing 16

Wow. I didn't realize what wikis were. I've used wikipedia, but that's about it. I thing they could be the most beneficical to my special education students for the collaborative notetaking. I think this could help all students.
I would have some concerns for my students using wikis as sources for research. They are too open and there is no control. What if their information isn't correct?

Thing 15

After reading a few perspecctives on Library 2.0, I have a few thoughts on some of the perspectives.

"To More Powerful Ways to Cooperate": This was interesting in that Library 2.0 can touch the entire web, worldwide. I didn't realize its impact was that global. I was interested in Open World Cat. It sounds really good and I look forward to the new search box. The social services were alsogood.

"To Temporary Place and Time": It really opened my eyes to the newer definition of "library." I have always though of a library as a place, not a community. Librarians are at the center of this community. It is a big job. I also look forward to library 4.0, although I'm not quite up to speed on Library 2.0 yet.

Thing 14 - Technorati

I just cannot believe how much current information is available on the internet. Yesterday, I was reading about Rafa Nadal, and today I'm reading about the death of Farrah Faucett.

These blog sites can easily be used in the classroom, but they must be used with care. They are easily tagged, that isn't the problem. My issue is: is this a valid way of hearing news? Is this stuff true. Depending on who wrote the blog, they can be extremely biased.

Thing 4? Not too easy, I thought my blog address was already entered. Hopefully I did it right this time.

Just can't seem how t move the avatar.

Thing 13

I could not open the delicious tutorial. But everything I looked at on the site that was interesting to me, seemed to be about "news." Most of this could be seen on any evening entertainment "news" show. So I would have tagged this stuff "celebrity news."

I have seen social networking sights at work in the educational setting. A teacher on my school did a history project on Facebook. I don't know exactly how it was done, but the students really enjoyed it and it seemed to enhance their learning.

Thing 12

I had no problem commenting on blogs from Library to Play, but couldn't find where to comment on the blogs from outside. I wan interested in Rafa Nadal not playing in Wimbledon and the psooibility of Roger Federrer winning and regaining his number one ranking. I was also interested in Nadal's injury. But didn't know how to post it. Will probably have to come back later.

I also realized that I was/am a lurker, I'd prefer to read, rather than comment on others' bolgs.

Thing 11

Here, I catalogued some of the books I had around, some of them were mine, but they were mostly from the library. I wish I had done this a long time ago, so I could remember what I read and what I liked. I probably would have added more notes and details than I did in this exercise.

Thing 6

These were fun. I did a puzzle out of a picture and made and image look laike a "Warhol." I also made a really cool restroom pass using Wordl, but couldn'tfigure out how to post it.
I made a pistake, these are out of order.

Thing 5

These are some pictures from my wedding. When I wasn't busy getting married, I was reading. The little guy in the second pic is my adorable nephew.

Thing 10

I used the puzzle for fun, but I could use it for maps and such to review students for LA/SS. I couldn't downloak the things I did on wordle. That sinks because I made a really cool restroom pass. Maybe next time.

Thing 8

I can't believe there is so much interesting stuff so readily available. Both in the fied of education and in my personal life. I'm sorta into celebrity gossip and weird stories.Implications for student use are many. They can use RSS when they are doing units. Since most of the subjects taught at my school used integrated units, RSS will be awesomw, not to mention eary to use.

Out of Order

Thing 4 - Registration

Thing 4? Not too easy, I thought my blog address was already entered. Hopefully I did it right this time.

Out of order.

Learning Contract Thing 2

I think my biggest obstable in becoming a lifelong learner is the fear of not knowing anythng about something. I realize the way to stop this is to expose yself to things unknown. Then, do research or ask people who know questions.I am not really worried about time or my toolbox, I have everything I need. Free time, a computer, internet and a modicum of creativity. But not too much.I was slightly worried about becoming bored, but the "things," are very varied and there are plenty of them.Unfortunately, I do not have a lot of support in doing this here at the beach, but I'm going to do my darndest.

Out of order, due to mistake.

Monday

While being my second day here, today was the first day I actually went to the beach. While at the beach. I usually chat with friends, enjoy the sunshine and/or read a book. Today, I enjoyed the sunshine and a book. It was called "Eat, Drink and Be From Mississippi." While not an awesome read, it did entertain me for the afternoon.I have to warn you, when I am on the beaach, I read beach books, no hardcore literature for the most part.

This is a little out order, because I had to fix a problem I had

Thing 9

Google Reader and Blogline's search tool were the easiest for me to use.
Syndicat8 and technaratti were more difficult.
I think because I am so used to google, that it is always going to be easier for me.

Thing 7

I used google tools and began a google calendar. They should both be effective, because I receive g-mail on my cell phone.

Thing 6

These layout choices are really cool. I made one of my husband and I. These would work great on my students projects.

Thing five

This is where my firend pic should go. Now you lucky ones can see my friend David and I twice.
